These are exciting times. You have so many opportunities open to you as a mumpreneur/mompreneur and many of these opportunities would be simply unheard of only a handful of years back.
There was a time when people who worked from home were looked at in a very poor light, if you remember. People couldn’t conceive how it could be possible to earn real, usable money in this way. Now, however everything has changed and you can make a go of your own business, turn a passion or hobby into money when working from home.
Traditionally, you had to spend long hours at boring Chambers of Commerce network meetings, or had to engage in other forms of “push” marketing at all times, but now you can be creative and develop a marketing plan for your business online.
1. The first thing that you need to remember is that you have to have a profile on one of the top professional networking websites, Linkedin for example. Sites such as this encourage professionals to interact and your profile will show that you are engaged in a certain type of business which may be of interest to them, as well.
2. Social media has exploded over the last few years. This type of communication may well be more to do with interacting with friends and acquaintances and finding friends online, but can be used as a powerful business marketing tool for you. Think about Facebook for example. You can set up a business page as part of your Facebook account and by unveiling your creation to all your friends and contacts; you can create “fans” of your business.
3. Use Twitter as a social media “mini-blog” to send highly targeted messages to your followers. It’s very simple to set up an account in your business name and to look for and start engaging with people who are interested in your niche. Whenever you send a message on Twitter, it is restricted to 140 characters or less, but this is nevertheless a very potent way of communicating and establishing yourself as an expert in your niche for good effect.
4. WordPress is a great platform that allows you to create highly professional looking blogs. Make no mistake about it, if you’re going to service a blog creatively and well, you need to do some work on it every day. Set a blog up as a vehicle for you to talk about your knowledge in this business arena and aim to write one new blog post per day and publish it. It’s rather easy to do.
5. A lot of options are available to you if you want to use social media to push your business. With Facebook and Twitter presence in hand and an outline blog established, look for and start visiting other important blogs in your niche and start interacting with them.
The power of blogging is in the two-way interaction created when commenting on the blog posts. As comments appear, others will realize that there is activity going on and this will start a stream of traffic and further comments. Your aim is to use social media in its most viral form to help you.
